Southern Downs ARK Inc. is a registered not-for-profit animal rescue charity dedicated to saving and improving the lives of unwanted and abandoned dogs and cats on the southern Darling Downs and beyond. Established in 2014, we are based in Warwick, Queensland.
Animals come into our care from many sources. Some are the product of indiscriminate breeding. Others we rescue from death row at council pounds. Many are surrendered to us by people who, for whatever reason, are no longer able to care for them.
Regardless of where an animal comes from, we don’t discriminate or pass judgment. We take in the sick, the old, the young, the broken, the traumatised and the unloved, and do our best to rehabilitate them and find them a good home. Our goal is simple: to give them a second chance at life.
We are a no-kill rescue organisation. Once a dog or cat comes into our care, it stays with us until it is rehomed. A small number of special dogs who cannot be rehomed live out their days in permanent ARK care.
ARK is run entirely by volunteers, who give freely of their time and personal resources to support our work. We have no paid staff.
We do not have a central shelter and depend on the generosity of approved foster carers, who look after our animals in their own homes until suitable permanent homes can be found.
Our income is derived primarily from animal adoption fees, donations and fundraising.
